I Am Not Alone

I wake every day,
not alone.
But, alone I remain.
Imprisoned,
as ever before,
waiting.

Waiting and wanting,
I have never asked much.
A kind word,
a gentle stroke of my hair-
all seem too much,
far too much
to share.

I wake every day,
not alone.
But, alone I remain,
at least a while more.
Biding my time,
wait a bit more.

Waiting and needing,
I have never asked much.
An unguarded laugh,
a kiss not asked-
all seem too much,
far too much
to bear.

I wake every day,
not alone.
But, alone I remain,
not too long now.
Aging away time,
not far to go.
